Response to Literature Guidelines
Find below a list of the information each paragraph should include in your Response to Literature. Please feel free to go above and beyond. Use rich adjectives and include a catchy beginning. Paragraph one: Start with a Catchy Beginning. Include the title of story. Talk about the genre (type of story). Mention the author. Introduce the main character. Tell the reader about the setting. What is the plot (in a couple of sentences). What point of view was this story written from (1st or 3rd)?
Paragraph two: What happens in the beginning of the story? Use transition words like "First" or "To begin with."
Paragraph three: What happens in the middle of the story? This is usually where the climax (exciting part) takes place.
Paragraph four: What happens in the end of the story? How does the climax get resolved? You may start off with something like "In conclusion."
Paragraph five: Personal response. Did you enjoy the story? Are you glad you read it? Would you recommend it to a classmate? Why or why not? Do relate to the main character at all? Why do you think the author wrote this story? What would you tell the author if you had a chance to meet him/her?
